FOR ARTISTS WHO WANT TO DISPLAY THEIR WORKS IN THE GALLERY

Our gallery in downtown Foley showcases around 75-80 artists. We have about 150 members and artists are rotated on a timely basis to ensure everyone has a chance to show. Each month during February - October, we feature an artist on our large gallery wall. The featured artist also has an artist reception one evening and all are welcome to come! On this page you will find a list of the current members displayed in the gallery.

Barb Nassar

My dance with clay began over 40 years ago teaching children whose excitement while working in clay inspired me to become an exhibiting potter.

A love of nature and working in clay contribute to my hand building techniques and subject matter. I create art sculpture, functional and decorative, in a detailed and whimsical style. Every piece tells a story to the careful observer.

Aimee Wissman

Beachin' Vibes Jewelry started as a small hobby that quickly turned into a passion. I was intrigued by the endless possibilities of polymer clay, being able to create a custom color whether it is solid or translucent. Growing up in Massachusetts I've always been drawn to the beach and creating pieces with a beachy vibe that others can enjoy has been a lot fun.

Laura Caffey

Laura Caffey is an artist and retired nurse midwife.  Working in oil, acrylics and glass and resin.  Laura took her first art lesson in oil colors at the age of 11, fostering, a life long love of art, however it wasn’t until she retired from the nursing profession in 2020 that she was able to devote her time to solely pursuing her love of creating.  Laura’s work is exhibited at the Foley Art Center and at the Gulf Coast Arts Alliance as well as various Fine Arts Festivals throughout Baldwin County.  Laura lives with her husband Pat in the Gasque community of Fort Morgan,  Alabama.

Crystal King Wallner

Crystal King Wallner is an artist from Pensacola, FL specializing in beadwork and jewelry-making. Crystal primarily works in bead embroidery and bead weaving and often uses glass seed beads, gemstones, shells, crystals, and natural fibers to create unique, wearable pieces. She is an avid collector of stones, seashells, and vintage glass beads. Each bead is individually stitched and comes together to tell a story within the finished piece. Crystal views the arranging of these elements as a contemplative art form, allowing for an emergent dialog between material, environment, and artist. Her art seeks to reflect the culture of the Gulf Coast and the beauty of the surrounding natural environment. Crystal has been working with beads since childhood and enjoys exploring new ways to incorporate beadwork into her art practice.

Crystal holds a doctorate from Drew University in the Medical and Health Humanities, where her dissertation work focused on the use of visual arts in hurricane recovery, leading to the creation of the Post Hurricane Art Network, an online educational arts repository: www.posthurricaneart.net. She graduated from UF with an M.A. in Arts in Medicine and previously received an undergraduate degree in Philosophy at UCF. It is her passion to use her love of the arts to help others. Crystal has completed a practicum in ethics at Atlantic Health System and in arts and medicine at Sacred Heart Hospital, where she was able to bring participatory art to children and families in the Pediatric ER and the Pediatric Infusion Unit. She has previously worked for several local arts and museum organizations including the Foley Art Center, the City of Foley Museums, First City Art Center and the UWF Historic Trust. She seeks to incorporate her love of history and arts together in her pieces. Crystal is also an active member of many local and national arts organizations, including the South Baldwin Museum Foundation and the National Organization of Arts in Health, and currently serves an editor for the International Journal of Education and the Arts.

Cortney Shawver is a local artist with a deep creative heritage, influenced by her grandmother, an avid crocheter, and her mother, a professional potter. Raised between the mountains of Colorado and the shoreline of

Connecticut, the natural beauty of both landscapes fueled her love of the outdoors and sparked her creative spirit.

Today, Cortney continues to explore local forests, waterways, and beaches, where she finds inspiration in the textures of leaves, flowers, driftwood and shells. Her

work reflects a deep connection to nature, offering a reminder of the peace and tranquility that only the outdoors can provide.

Randolph Crew

About the Author

Randolph Crew didn’t start writing novels until he was in his fifties because, as he says, “I couldn’t spell.” He credits Word’s spell check, a creative writing course at a junior college in 1990, and a great writer’s group in Greenville, SC, as the path to his writing career.

In 1996, after four years of learning the craft and polishing his first manuscript, which was A Killing Shadow, a military action-adventure novel based on his Vietnam experience, he was told by literary agents that although his manuscript should be published and deserved to be published, it wouldn’t be because it was about Vietnam and nobody cared. So, he self-published. He followed that in 2011 with a sequel titled One-way Mission. Both received outstanding reviews and high praise from those who mattered and from professional publications.

In 2016, Crew decided to have fun writing a series of cozy murder mysteries called The Four Seasons Series. This book, The Barin Field Murder, is Book 3 in that series, and Book 4 is The Gulf Shores Murder.

Crew is the proud father of a son who is a prolific reader and the proud grandfather of a granddaughter who is the number one fifth-grade reader in her school. He lives in Alabama and enjoys writing, speaking, and hiking in the great outdoors. You may contact him via the contact page on his website: www.rcrewauthor.com. He would love to hear from you.

Also, if you enjoyed The Barin Field Murder, please consider posting a short book review on Amazon. Thank you.

Andrea Baker

Self taught artist, I’ve been making art as long as I can remember. I love watercolor, acrylic, oil, pen and ink, colored pencils and am always learning new techniques. Animals and living things are my favorite subjects. I’m also a registered nurse and have used my artistic talent for medical illustrations as well as teaching aids for patients. Tattoo design, book illustrations, textile painting, commission work and pet portraits sort of round everything out. Making art makes me happy!

Gizelle Borwhat

About Foley Art Center

Gizelle is an accomplished artist with over 50 years of experience. She specializes in Oil

Painting, Watercolor, Pencil, and Photography. Gizelle has her bachelor’s degree in art and

education.

Gizelle’s career began at age 13 when she won the National Scholastic Art Award. She has

been recognized for her work in oil painting, advertising, and was commissioned by the

owners of the Howard Hughes Mansion in Lake Tahoe.

Gizelle’s work has been featured in the Coastal Art Center, Foley Art Center, Mill Creek

Gallery, Joliet Jr. College, Moline College, St. Francis College, Lewis University, Howard

Hughes Mansion, Resource Concepts and several locations in Portland Oregon.

I have been an artist my entire life. While college educated in countless mediums, my

focus has been the use of oil paint, water color, pastel and pencil. My artistic style has

transformed over the years and is very eclectic. I have been influenced by and greatly

admire Monet, Van Gogh, Picasso, Fabritius, Miro, E. De Kooning, Chihuly, Chagall,

Kahlo, Rousseau, Leighton, Klimt, Cassat, (the list is ineffable). Inspiration for me comes

from every aspect of life; currently my subject matter derives from the beach, various

species of butterfly, ocean birds, ocean life, landscapes, nudes, photography, multi-

media and fantasy art. Bold color is consistent in all my work. The photographs I’ve

taken are often inspiration for my work.  Occasionally, I will render a fantasy. I consider

my art a blessing and gift, it’s always been my passion.  It has saved me in times of

desperation, given me focus, purpose and direction. I enjoy spending my days doing

what I love.  I am available for commission work.  E-mail me with requests or price

quotes.

Linda Hill

I taught at Pinson Valley High School for 25 years, owned Lindy B's Gift Shop and Tea Room. I have attended many workshops and have painted for more years than I would like to admit but still find such joy and peace when I am painting.

My younger son tragically died in 2014. I finally found a way to live again through art. With the help of the Baldwin County Education Coalition, I started the Bryan Hill Memorial Vocational Scholarship. Each year a student from Foley High School is selected as the recipient. The Scholarship is funded by 100% of the sale of my art. It is so good to have a purpose again!

To God Be the Glory!

Tammy Hayes

I am a modern abstract artist with a passion for color. Being creative and thinking outside the box has always come naturally for me, so working with different mediums, acrylics, fluid art, and alcohol inks has given me many ways to express my love for art. Looking at the world with Imagination inspires me to create art from a different perspective. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with others, hoping to inspire artist of all ages to bring out their creative selves. With many different types of techniques to work from, I enjoy creating one-of-a-kind pieces to be shared with others. My main goal is to draw feelings from others when looking into each unique piece created.

Clarence Cooper

As a photographer I attempt to capture things of beauty that are often overlooked by others. Stay s
